Being Seasoned.
Rachel Hanson
“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses its flavor,
how shall it be seasoned?” (Matthew 5:13a).
For a few years I wasn’t truly committed to a church
and only half-heartedly worked at finding a new one. Then,
early one morning, I saw VCC’s sign lighting the dark. A
Vineyard! In my neighborhood! Vineyards were on my
radar, but I had not been led to any. That Sunday I was
ready to go then started to waver. However, I knew I had to
be faithful. I knew this was “it.” God had answered a prayer
more fully than I ever imagined and I couldn’t turn my back
on that.
Salt is significant because it is a healing and cleansing
agent. It keeps food from spoiling. Its flavor enhances other
flavors. It is both useful and makes life more enjoyable.
A year and a half ago I was at a Vineyard in Ohio with
my friend. It was her experiences that made me think a
Vineyard could be right for me. However, during that visit,
most of my flavor was lost and I wasn’t fully present. That
was a few months before God brought VCC to me. Recently,
I was once again at church with that friend. During worship
I felt the fruit of my spiritual renewal. My heart and soul
rejoiced in the re-seasoning. God wanted more for me. I
followed. Now He also is asking more from me. And I am
blessed by both.
Questions:
God seasons us when we follow Him. Do you feel He is
calling you to something?
When you feel spiritually dull, who or what activities lift
you?
What gives your life that extra spark that you know only
comes from your relationship with God?
